Handicapping: Elevate Your Betting Strategy

July 16, 2024 by Jeff Donchess

At GamedayMath, we are constantly innovating to provide our users with the best tools for making informed betting decisions. We are thrilled to introduce our new Handicapping feature, designed to give you a competitive edge. This comprehensive feature is comprised of four powerful components: Analytic Projections, Bet Trends, Sharp Line, and Injury Effects.

1. Analytic Projections

The cornerstone of our Handicapping feature is the Analytic Projections tool. This advanced feature leverages sophisticated algorithms and statistical models to project outcomes.

An edge has been triggered for the Washington Mystics ML

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Comprehensive Data Analysis: Our base projections currently come from DRatings.com which builds projections based on a variety of different variables. You can read more about what those projections cover here. This ensures that your projections are grounded in reliable information.
  • Create and Edit Projections: One of the standout aspects of this feature is its flexibility. You can use our default projections or customize them to reflect your insights and strategies. Adjust variables, test different scenarios, and create projections that align with your unique perspective.
Disagree with the analytics? You can put in your own numbers!

Analytic Projection Trigger: The icon will be highlighted if the projected edge (either analytical or edited) is greater than 5.0%.

More details can be found in our blog: Analytic Projections: Decoding the Game's Outcome.

Understanding betting trends is crucial for making informed decisions. Our Bet Trends component provides you with valuable insights into how each team is playing in comparison to money line, spread, and over/under.

The Mystics spread bets are trending well and are up 6 units over the last ten games.

Bet Trends Trigger: While this varies by bet type and sport, the icon will be highlighted if the team is trending better than their opponent for the associated bet.

More details can be found in our blog: Bet Trends: Your Guide to Smart Sports Handicapping.

3. Sharp Line

The Sharp Line feature stands out because it incorporates a sophisticated algorithm that analyzes various market signals. Often, sportsbooks are slow to adjust their lines in response to new information, creating discrepancies that savvy bettors can exploit. Our formula identifies these slow-moving lines, providing you with a strategic advantage.

This feature works in a similar way that our BetScore, Euclid EV, and EROI modules work as it uses the markets to find profitable bets.

Sharp Line Trigger: When the market identifies a bet that has a greater than 0% chance of being profitable.

More details can be found in our blog: Sharp Line: Predicting Line Movements with Precision.

4. Player Injury Effect

The Injury Effect is a powerful tool that quantifies the impact of player injuries on a team’s performance. By analyzing the effect of each injury, we provide you with valuable data to adjust your betting strategies accordingly.

Injury Effect Trigger: This varies by sport and by bet type, but this effect will trigger when the accumulated effect of all the injuries for one team meets a certain threshold to significantly affect the line.

More details can be found in our blog: Injury Effect: Impact on Betting Lines.

Bet Grade: Putting It All Together

Bet Grade combines these four critical components—Analytic Projections, Bet Trends, Sharp Line, and Injury Player Values—into a single, powerful score.
